Fry's Inconsistent Starter Tuneup (FIST)

Many folks have noticed that the starter decks as packaged in Core 2026 are very inconsistent, and in places even incoherent, due to including just a single copy of each class card that the investigator is allowed to take, rather than placing the class cards with investigators that are best equipped to make use of them. This series of decks (FIST) is intended to upgrade the starters by moving cards around to decks where they make more sense, while still allowing you to keep five decks built at all times (in case you want to take it to a pickup game night, etc.). These decks are not intended to be the strongest possible to build out of the box, but rather, they are intended to allow you to have five ready-to-play decks where you won't constantly be getting "why is this card in my deck" questions from new players.

Isabelle Barnes tuneup

As packaged, Izzy's starter is a hot mess, and (along with Dexter) is one of the primary reasons I am making this deck series. The two spell assets are nice to give Izzy something to do with her , but there's no guarantee you'll be able to find them in a timely fashion. There are hints of some combos/synergies, but again, with single copies you just have to hope your draw power finds them for you. For this build, I chose to relinquish the spells to Dexter and focus more on fighting and the combos outlined below.

Strategy

Mulligan for Meat Cleaver or Isabelle's Twin .45s. If you already have a weapon, look for Aleksey Saburov; beyond that, you'd like to have Emergency Cache and Hunter's Instinct. Your primary job is to take care of enemies, but in the mid-late game you'll be able to pull in a decent number of clues with "Look what I found!", which can be recurred with Hunter's Instinct.

Combos/synergies

Meat Cleaver: the horror healing only applies to Izzy herself, but that's still great because it lets you use Izzy's ability more. By contrast, the horror damage can be applied to your assets - putting it on Aleksey is great because he'll shake it off at the end of your turn, or you can put it on your Cloak of Resonance if you need more damage output right now.

Lucky Charm: mostly you will want to use this to move horror from Izzy to Aleksey, but you can also use it to move horror to your Cloak if you need damage right now, or you can use it to move damage from Izzy to Aleksey to keep yourself safe.

Hunter's Instinct: "Look what I found!" is a great way to pick up clues; if you're low on cash, grab some Emergency Cache to fund your next LWIF.
