"Cause / I am Patrice and / I got my animal friends / And we go and find our own clues / and we go and deal our own damage /And then we go and make some new friends! / And we won’t listen to anything you say"

Hello everyone, and welcome to this deck guide. Patrice likes her own circle of animal friends and she doesn't need anyone else. This deck works best in multiplayer as a flex who can both help fighting and investigating.

Piloting the deck

The main cards in this deck are Miss Doyle and her cat army, Summoned Hound and Close the Circle for fighting and investigating. Those cards make her do those actions at often 5+ skill and (with Summoned Hound and Close the Circle) even without spending actions, since they're . On top of that, two of the cats (Hope and Zeal) can auto deal with Patrice's weakness.

The deck uses Prophetic for a discount on good Spell, Fortune and Spirit events and Ice Pick for a flexible bonus while fighting or investigating using arorementioned cards and Investigate/Fight events. Also, these assets combined result in 4 charges on Close the Circle when it enters play.

A Chance Encounter lets you put Summoned Hound into play without worrying about shuffling the weakness in (it's not the same as playing the card). It also is a second chance to play Miss Doyle when you missed the window to play her. What's more, it's a Fortune so with Prophetic you pay 1 for Summoned Hound or Miss Doyle.

Resourceful lets you get back the Ice Pick (even in the same test you use them due to them triggering in the same step of skill test timing). Enraptured lets you add charges to Close the Circle while investigating at base 5 with Augur, Summoned Hound or Trial by Fire, or at 6+ while using Read the Signs. Quantum Flux lets you shuffle Ice Pick and Resourceful back in to let you do it all over again.

Other useful cards

Moonstone and Four of Cups provide a useful boost to boost your Close the Circle actions and spell events.

Cornered, Last Chance and Promise of Power are there to boost your skill if needed, for example while fighting or investigating using Improvised Weapon or Winging It.

Trial by Fire can boost Patrice's skill of choice for a turn and is only 1 resource with Prophetic in play.

"Look what I found!", Drawn to the Flame, Read the Signs and Winging It provide extra clues and with Prophetic, "Look what I found!" and Read the Signs are free to play!

Improvised Weapon and Spectral Razor help patrice fight; Spectral Razor can be a free 3-damage event on Non-Elite enemies.

Patrice's Violin and Emergency Cache provide some extra resources for the early game.

Level 0 deck

Since most of the cards Patrice needs require XP, she will have a rough start.

-Replace Miss Doyle and Summoned Hound with Madame Labranche for a smoother economy. Go for Charisma and the allies ASAP.

-Replace Close the Circle with Rise to the Occasion for an extra boost on difficult tests with your base 2 , and .

-Replace Cornered with Unexpected Courage for extra skill boosts.

-Replace A Chance Encounter with Lucky!.

Alternatives / further upgrades

Some suggestions are listed in the side deck. Specifically Professor William Webb or Scavenging allow you to reuse Ice Pick even more for extra clues and damage. Strength in Numbers provides some nice icons (4 with both Ice Pick and Prophetic in play).Alter Fate allows you to snipe some persistent cards in the right campaign. Trial by Fire is even stronger in it's upgraded form and completely free if paid from Prophetic.

Conclusion

That's it for the deck guide. I hope you enjoy the deck, and if you have any feedback or suggestions, feel free to contact me.

This is actually so much better than the base dog build that I saw before. I'm glad I saw this one, as I think it utilizes a lot of the new edge of the earth cards in a way that I think makes patrice really competitive. This seems like it is a lot more... chaotic and difficult to play than the mind's eye build, since it has so many little odds and ends for how to do extra damage, or how to get ephemeral skill bonuses and benefits for a turn.

I'm not sure where the action compression comes from when fighting. Sure, there's spectral razor, and there's the cat, and dog, and improvised weapon, but spectral is one-time use, cat and dog are just a single damage, and improvised weapon is kind of hard to get it to work without a mind's eye charge to turn it into a brain test. Aside from big commit cards (which you need in hand when you need the improvised weapon), and trial by fire (again, need that at the right time), and maybe Ice Pick??...I'm not sure how she uses improvised weapon. And especially not reliably.

But maybe it's not entirely reliable, I mean, patrice is far from a reliable investigator. Strong, and really fun, but figuring out the puzzle of her turns is always going to be a challenge.

In any case, I think this embraces patrice's strengths and weaknesses in a way that I find really cool, and really engaging. This also seems like a particularly difficult build, and learning how to play optimally will probably take a lot of practice, which is cool!

The trouble I have is upgrading her, because you can get some REALLY good utility cards (on top of the core build you have here), but it all comes down to timing with them...

I hope I remember to keep this deck build in mind when I'm choosing a mostly clue-based flex for a new campaign I start. I rarely play investigators a second time, but this build seems so much more fun than mind's eye, and it uses some weird janky cards in a great way. Nice job!

Thanks for your response and glad you like it. Sorry for late response - life got in the way.

You're absolutely right that the Mind's Eye build is more consistent overall and is compatible with bold action events. The main idea was to do something fun with new Edge of the Earth cards and to not make another Patrice Mind's Eye deck (and secretly that the Close the Circle card was hated on so much that I wanted to make a deck to try and make it functional). The end result is definitely more janky than just going for the consistency of Mind's eye. Stuff like Cornered and Ice Picks will help making things a tad more consistent on that front. Since Winging It might be a bit better to time than Improvised Weapon I'd say that one is slightly more reliable (can't time when there's an enemy on you after all. And, in a way, if there are enough situational things in the deck that might all do the trick, you are bound to draw into one of them sooner rather than later right? :p In general, Patrice will not be the main fighter anyway since her ability makes her a tad unpredictable for that.

True, every turn in Patrice is a puzzle, that's one of the fun things about her :) Plus she draws through her deck really fast which is cool.

I'd love to hear if you got to try out the deck and also any things you ended up doing differently.
