Pete's Fail/Pass PE Class

Minimalist, not Homeless

08071.avif 03039.avif 06165.avif

This deck leverages Short Supply to hit the ground running, attempting to play out our 2 main engines as fast as possible. We want to mulligan for hands that either contain our engine cards or contain Resourceful or Scrounge for Supplies in order to make Short Supply effectively a draw 10 on the first turn, with the extra bonus of maybe hitting a weakness or 2 early

I'm a Smoker not a Runner!

The first engine is Drawing Thin + Track Shoes, which allows us to make a free test on move which we want to make impossibly hard so that we can commit our Take Heart and proc our Rabbit's Foot. Every turn is an opportunity to generate up to 4 extra resources (6 with Take Heart) or 2 + 1 (Rabbit's Foot) extra cards (4 with Take Heart)

Duke's Digging Through the Trash!

The second engine is Scavenging + Ice Pick. Due to the Trigger window of Ice Pick being on success, both Scavenging and Ice Pick proc during ST.7 of Skill Test Timing which means you can order them how you want. This allows you to discard one or both Picks before you trigger your Scavenging which allows you to Scavenge them back. Upgraded Scavenging helps you play out other items when you don't need the bonus but you only need Scavenging to combo with Picks since Picks is Fast.

A Glimmer of Garbage

To tie it all together, we have a few discard synergies going on in the deck in order to really maximize using Pete's every turn. Lawrence Carlisle helps our early game economy while also adding a nice +1 while Artistic Inspiration gets to be a constant Lucky! and gives us another discard outlet on the off chance we don't want or can't ready an asset with Pete's .

Don't feel bad about discarding cards though. Some cards are better in the trash like A Glimmer of Hope, which can become a 1 resource draw 3 for 1 action, or Winging It, which really helps out on clue compression but only when played from discard. Plus any extra copies of cards that you don't need are happily tossed away.

Final Thoughts

The final upgrades of the deck go into Gift of Nodens in order to really take advantage of all the discarding we've done as well as try to prolong shuffling our deck as much as possible. This allows to cool tech of Strength in Numbers, which will always be better than an Unexpected Courage since we play The Great Work and Short Supply as Permanents which means that Strength in Numbers will always be at least . If you take In the Thick of It, you can trade out the Leather Coat for Charon's Obol, in order to push it to , which is something to consider since this deck is so XP hungry. If you do, you can replace the Leather Jacket with Hunting Jacket instead, which while not fast, is able to soak both horror and damage

Thank you so much for reading this primer! If you have any comments or concerns, feel free to leave a post! There are several interactions even I'm not too sure about like if you can use the Player Window between ST.1 and ST.2 of Skill Test Timing in order to use Pete's in order to ready Drawing Thin again so that it can procc again on the same test before you move to ST.2! There's so much cool stuff to Ashcan Pete and I really hope everyone enjoys the deck and finds more cool tech!
