What is this deck?

A combat-focused Dexter that I ran with a clue-focused Trish through the Innsmouth campaign.

Deck aims to take 5 actions every turn by combining Leo De Luca, Haste, and tons of assets that have abilities. With Drake's ability to recycle used up assets to play new ones, it's like 6 actions every turn.

So, what can you do with the free actions from Haste?

  1. Keep blasting enemies if they're still alive.
  2. Use the charge on Decorated Skull for some much needed econ.
  3. Chip in a clue with Flashlight.
  4. Drink some Liquid Courage to heal the horror from Shrivelling, Arcane Research, and Ward of Protection
  5. Trigger activated abilities on encounter cards, acts, locations, etc.
  6. Vehicles!

Didn't need to trigger any abilities? You can still use the free action from Haste instead to build your tableau for future turns or get cards/resources.

Deck takes time to set up but opening with Leo De Luca or Haste mitigates it some. I doubt this would be a good deck to pair up with another gator who's totally incapable of any enemy management. Cluever Trish turned out to be an excellent pairing for this deck.

Card Choices

Brief blurbs on some of the cards in this deck.

Decorated Skull

Amazing card in this deck. You'll be killing enemies anyway, and you can use the free from Haste to keep your deck fueled with resources and cards.

Worst case, it's a 0 cost fodder for Drake's ability.

Backpack

Cards attached to Backpack can be played with Dexter's ability! Deck has 11 non-Backpack items. Colt Vest Pocket, Scroll of Secrets, Switchblade, Decorated Skull are all great hits. Even hits Emergency Cache before you upgrade out of it.

Would be so juicy if it didn't trash itself after being used up...

Flashlight

An item asset with a useful ability that can be recycled with Dexter's ability when it's no longer useful. Goes in the deck.

Upgrades

Core Upgrades

What I consider the core of the deck only takes 12 xp.

  1. 4xp - 2 x Blood Pact -> Haste

The build around of the deck

  2. 2xp - 2 x Leo De Luca

Being able to play Leo right off the bat is so huge.

  3. 2xp - 2 x Emergency Cache - > Pay Day

Dexter is often broke and this is a 0 cost card that easily nets you 4 or 5 at 1 xp a pop.

  4. 4 xp - 2 x Colt Vest Pocket

The additional and option to play this before you need it are both quite nice.

Sweet sweet brain damage

Use the experience discount from Arcane Research to gradually upgrade your Shrivelling and Azure Flame. I only upgraded those to level 3 and then opted to upgrade Deny Existence and Ward of Protection

Nice to haves

  1. 3xp - Charisma

Combine Leo with David Renfield, Thomas Dawson, or even Arcane Initiate

  2. 4 xp - 2 x Backpack

The upgraded version basically searches half of your deck and almost always finds 3 hits. The small cost reduction also goes a long way with getting set up ASAP.

  3. 6 xp - 2 x David Renfield -> Arcane Initiate

Once you have the other upgrades, the extra willpower and resources from David are not as important. Arcane initiate is a 0 cost asset that finds the powerful spells in your deck.

Mulligan and Opening

Once the core upgrades are there, Leo, Haste, Payday, Switchblade, and a combat card would be an ideal and safe opening hand.

Your first turn is going to really lame. Then, ideally, there would be no enemies during the 1st mythos phase so you can get Haste on the board, start taking 5 actions every turn and continue to set up.

Cards to try

  1. The Skeleton Key

It's an item asset that doesn't take up any slots with a sweet ability, combines with flashlight. May be in 3+ players?

  2. Geas

The extra and is sweet. Not much use for the other stat boosts but promising to not commit any cards during my turns is a pretty negligible downside for this deck.

  3. Bob Jenkins

Bob would be an amazing support for this deck.
