Irish Therapy Sessions - Rainbows, Booze, and Fights

This is the starting point for Carolyn's night out. The aim of this deck is to provide a solid way to achieve the //// functional drunk concept that I was dreaming about since I realized Liquid Courage and Carolyn Fern are a funny, thematic synergy.

Intro

Carolyn is off work after an exhausting day of listening to people's mental problems. She's preparing for a night out with her home girl, chasing boys and beating up people that get between her and her goals.

So I stumbled down to Kelly's Pub across the edge of town. And I told the boys me story and we had another round. We'll drink and drink and drink and drink and drink and drink and fight!

Rationale

Carolyn has received a lot of interesting cards in recent expansions. This build leans heavily on the utility provided by the "Edge of the earth" level 0 permanents:

In the Thick of It: gives you 3exp, so you can get your Stick to the Plan
Down the Rabbit Hole: makes the deck progression a lot smoother, jumpstarting the Liquid Courage, Peter Sylvestre engine
Geared Up is added over Ever Vigilant to save deck space, and to enable XZibbit-style Backpackception

Combined with some notable value combo's:

Meat Cleaver, Ice Pick and Peter Sylvestre
a thinned deck, Practice Makes Perfect and Deduction, Perception, Promise of Power, and Vicious Blow

Progression

Note: this deck starts with one unspent exp

To keep this simple, I will provide 3 versions of the deck. This version being the starting point of the drunken master progression track. After a few scenario's, you will likely have the beefed up version. You are building towards the final form of this build: the drunken master.

Priority upgrades

Stick to the Plan: to enable a better set-up turn (start with 2 extra resources, and thin deck for your Backpack turn one
2x Backpack 2x Backpack: set up your disgusting turn 1 synergy
2x Peter Sylvestre Peter Sylvestre: in case willpower () tests prove to be tricky
1x Grete Wagner 1x Grete Wagner: for the added +1

When you have time

1x Deny Existence and 1x Painkillers 2x Deny Existence
2x Liquid Courage Liquid Courage: for better booze that leaves less of a hangover
2x Vicious Blow 2x Vicious Blow

Jun 05, 2022 docrodeo · 8 Enjoying the deck concept but having trouble understanding the need for Peter vs Grete. If you’re playing a flex role wouldn’t the extra fist and book be preferred over added horror soak which you minimally need on a character so adept at healing it?

Every upkeep phase his horror healing will trigger Carolyn's passive ability, and give you a resource. Grete Wagner is a good alternative too, as are Alice Luxley and Michael Leigh. But these make your deck very expensive. I personally favor running Peter, and adding a composure later on in the build to boost your state with the heaps of money you will be making.

Enjoying the deck concept but having trouble understanding the need for Peter vs Grete. If you’re playing a flex role wouldn’t the extra fist and book be preferred over added horror soak which you minimally need on a character so adept at healing it?

@docrodeo Peter is there to provide you with a near infinite amount of money. Every upkeep phase his horror healing will trigger Carolyn's passive ability, and give you a resource.

Grete Wagner is a good alternative too, as are Alice Luxley and Michael Leigh. But these make your deck very expensive. I personally favor running Peter, and adding a composure later on in the build to boost your state with the heaps of money you will be making.
