Introduction

Built for a 2-player Standard run through RttCU with Carolyn as clue-getter and support and Patrice as enemy management. Our goal was the "special Witch ending," which we achieved. The build was kind of a classic Dark Horse Patrice, which, honestly, didn't work all that well. As always, comments and suggestions welcome.

Notable Cards

Assets

  • Fire Axe -- the primary combat card
  • Schoffner's Catalogue -- meant to allow Patrice to play items assets while running her resources down to 0 for the axe
  • Bandages -- damage control, but, in [practice, rarely played

Events

Piloting

A deck that is heavily affected by the order in which cards appear. Scenarios where the various critical pieces showed up early were great; if they failed to shwo , it was a lot more difficult. Generally, you want to try and have enough resources to get out Schoffner's Catalogue which, in turn, gets out things like Fire Axe, Patrice's Violin, Moonstone, and Track Shoes as needed. Getting Mind's Eye early is really nice, too.

Mulligan

Mulligan for Fire Axe and Schoffner's Catalogue; once XP is spent, Prophetic, Four of Cups, and Cornered are great. Typically, for Patrice, you are going to get a couple of bites at the apple, so play what you can and wait for the next go around to get the other stuff.

Upgrades

In rough order:

Bonus:

These are all useful, but discard what isn't working for you. The first two a slighty less useful because you can't use Mind's Eye on the tests, but you usually have enough icons to toss. The third item is nice to clear various hexes and curses when convenient.

Hey! In your introduction, you said that it "didn't work all that well", and I have been trying to do a fighting Patrice in the past, with roughly the same issue, Fire Axe is good for Flex, but hard to be the main fighter with Patrice... So is this an improved version based on your learning or the version that you tried?

You could have kept Improvised Weapon when upgrading to Mind's Eye, as it is an easy 2 damage attack on which you can actually use Mind's Eye.

Well, I meant the typical "Dark Horse + Mme Labranche + Fire Axe" never really came together, except when Dark Horse was in my opening hand. The opportunity cost for 3-cost cards is pretty high, and getting a Prophetic down was almost always more attractive. Getting the 2 damage off of Fire Axe was pretty easy, most of the time, and I could usually deal out 4-6 damage in a turn, depending on my resources and the Mind's Eye situation at the time, especially once Cornered went down and I could count on a +2 for any card.

I think the problem with "Poverty Patrice" is being able to get to 2-3 resources on any given turn to play some key cards without spending 2-3 actions to do so. This is especially acute in TCU, since there is a lot of time pressure in most scenarios. I wonder if a more resource-focused build (maybe with Renfield?) that uses boosts to improve combat wouldn't be as effective. Then you could use Brute Force and Sharp Vision for compression as well.
