This deck is a full XP version, if enough people ♥ it, I will make it a 0xp version with the upgrade path. Spoiler, it is fun to play!

Here is the 0xp version, improved based on your comments, and with upgrade path, it works even better!!

Cop at day, hero at night, Tommy Muldoon is the real Blessed guardian!

This is a combat orientated deck of Tommy that focuses on the tokens and the newly released cards.

Key Mechanic:

  1. At the beginning of each turn, use Spirit of Humanity on Peter Sylvestre and Jessica Hyde to generate 2 tokens.

  2. Seal the 2 tokens just generated to activate the Holy Spear

  3. At the end of each turn, Jessica Hyde and Peter Sylvestre will heal the damage taken allowing you to start again every turn.

  4. Once there is 10 tokens on Holy Spear, use Hallow to take them out and start again.

With Jessica Hyde down, your simple attacks with the Holy Spear are 7 and with 9 when you seal 2 tokens.

If you need more burst or Spirit of Humanity is at the bottom of your deck, you can use Keep Faith.

If you have the 2 copies of Spirit of Humanity down, you can fill the bag with tokens using your soaks and bring them back with Resourceful.

Also, to prevent Rookie Mistake to kill your Allies, always try to have the 2 tokens before your turn starts, therefore use Spirit of Humanity when you are sure that you will not draw any more cards before they self-heal.

Encounter Deck Management:

Once the Allies are down, your statline is already quite solid: 4-3-5-3. Take the Initiative provides good protection against Encounter Cards you cannot miss.

Moneymaking:

Thanks to The Star • XVII, your Allies, Cherished Keepsake and Leather Coat are boosted, not only they take more damage / horror, they also bring you more money once defeated.

Tutoring:

If you did not find your Holy Spear with a mulligan, use your Prepared for the Worst first if available.

Backpack (2) brings great tutoring for Holy Spear and also your soaks. Knowing that if you play Leather Coat, it will automatically discard your Backpack and all the other cards attached to it, so try only to take Cherished Keepsake and Leather Coat if possible and put down Cherished Keepsake first.

Calling in Favors also helps to bring your 2 Allies down asap. Bonus point if you give 2 horrors to Peter Sylvestre before you Call him back and replace him with Jessica Hyde as your last action so that she can heal immediatly.

Drawing:

On top of the drawing of the tutoring, Take Heart used on a hard or test brings cash and cards, paired with Unrelenting to get the best chances of failure (and maximising card drawing).

Glory also thins the deck and brings 2 cards fast.

Resourceful is in case Rookie Mistake killed an important card, otherwise Unrelenting for free drawing, or Keep Faith for more tokens.

Updates:

If the deck makes it to popular, I will do the whole XP process from the 0xp version, all the cards of the 0xp version being in the Side Deck as well as some higher xp upgrades.

What do you all think?

Backpack (2)

vs

Another Charisma to have Tetsuo Mori

The latter allows to use him for Spirit of Humanity, and once he's in your discard pile, use A Chance Encounter and get him killed immediately (bringing tokens or creating AoO) to tutor or find back your dead soaks, as well as 3 net resources.

Plus Tetsuo is thematic :)

Tommy's Allies don't normally get discarded. Tetsuo, especially shouldn't end up in your discard pile because his ability doesn't trigger unless he gets defeated by damage and/or horror.

Jessica and/or Pete might get discarded? Or, you might commit extra copies of your allies? But IMO A Chance Encounter is not a Tommy card.

Yes indeed, unless Rookie Mistake hits hard, A Chance Encounter isn't necessary. This encourages me to make a v2 of the deck using Joey "The Rat" Vigil to bring tempo, especially as the 1 coin extra per asset is brought back by the 1 extra health/sanity of The Star • XVII

I played similar deck with Tetsuo Mori. I think Mori is one of the good partner, and better than Backpack (2). The reason is...

  1. Both backpack & coat has body slot.
  2. The target for Backpack is limited (spear, becky, coat, keepsake) and may be useless in late of the game. However, Mori may be useful even if in late of the game. you could gives his ability into another investigator. Also, Mori could return discarded card; Becky is good card for commit.
  3. You could assign damage/horror into Mori from second Humanity.

Of course, there are a few methods to defeat Mori, but 1 Humanity could do within 2 round (3 round if Star). If a enemy is spawned, you could provoke AoO to do.

Tetsuo rewards you for killing him, which is obviously good for Tommy. I think Jess and Pete combo is a bit counterintuitive for him in general, because the idea is that you don't have them killed. I understand that the you want to combo it with Spirit, but wouldn't it just be better to take advantage of actually defeating things with spirit and getting double value (blesses and resources) or even triple with Tetsuo/Brother Xavier.
Because of this I also kinda dislike Calling in Favors. A Chance Encounter seems fine though, to silver bullet your weakness.

I LIKE IT! I think the addition of joey is critical, as the tempo you gain in fast coat/keepsake is far too good to pass up.

Additionally id like to make a hot take in saying that Allies for Tommy are a trap, if you want to play lots of allies that get defeated Play leo instead. Only thing tommy should be defeating are leather coat and cherished keep sake. And thats only because of joey.

@Lord Triloth @Dustconsumedseeker I completely understand and agree with both of your comments :) This deck was more asking for feedback on this idea of using the Spirit of Humanity to feed the Holy Spear on a Tommy Deck.

After that, I came up with a better version of this deck based on comments and including Joey, but for some reason, it didn't really get a better welcome than this "trial" deck.

fun deck... but what r u gonna do with all this money ?

Jun 17, 2021 Valentin1331 · 66801

@OzValdo I used Favor of the Sun here because I thought it was useful on the progress path to trigger .35 Winchester, but it turns out that if you take the Holy Spear early enough, as suggested in the follow up deck here, you don't need Favor of the Sun.

Therefore the best way to spend your money is to replace the 2 copies with one copy of Plucky and one of Combat Training that will most likely not be defeated thanks to all the soak, are fast, and allow you to have a 4-skill coverage.

Good idea with Plucky & Combat training

Jun 18, 2021 Advachiel · 57

Favor of the Sun combined with Ancient Covenant is a brilliant combo for any investigator that can take it. Having a few guaranteed tests at a +2 is quite nice.

Jun 20, 2021 Valentin1331 · 66801

@Advachiel indeed it's an amazing combo even though the idea here is really to create the bless tokens on demand for the Holy Spear, so all the deck is made in that goal. The rest of the XP is spent to balance the lack of draw with Unrelenting.

I like this deck a lot, I had never considered Tommy as the Blessed dude.

I did use Tetsuo and Guard Dogs, Dyno Blasts, and a bunch of combat-focused skills. But just wanted to shout out this great idea

I played this deck now in rTFA hard with some different tries and I think when looking at this deck analytically there are multiple Questions to ask yourself:

  • Are you looking to play the best Tommy deck?
  • Are you looking to play the best Holy Spear deck?
  • What is the ceiling of the deck?
  • How you reach that ceiling?

1) It mostly makes use of his cardpool rather than his ability. Now to be a good fighter (And with the statline what else you want to do), you focus on a lategame weapon, so if there is a better tommy deck around it will probably focus on Flamethrower or Brand or new weapons)

2) I do not see any guardian being able to pull this off, without Spirit, which is survivor 2 xp. Sister Mary doesn't get the consistent bless tokens that well and her stat line is bad. So I say yes, Tommy is the best Holy Spear wielder and this deck in some variations is the best Holy Spear deck currently available

3) 7 dmg a turn, 9/7/7 stat line is enough for 3 player hard difficulty. On Expert it will be dicy as you might fail tests and with 4 players there might not always be enough actions. Luckily I think the deck can be easily brought there

4) Pretty much with what you explained in your guide. To reach expert, replace favor of the sun with Safeguard or Riot Whistle (for the extra actions) and The Star with Ace of Swords. I prefer Safeguard as you do not need to engage always and you keep the slot open. I like favor+Covenant, but you are sealing the tokens on your Spear and I think this should be a different deck. (Favor of the sun is much better in yorrick who can replay it)

So I say, this deck is very well constructed and probably the best Holy Spear deck available at the moment. Some Considerations and changes:

  • Favor of the Sun into Safeguard (can always luxury upgrade later)
  • Tarot swap for Hard and especially Expert
  • Calling in Favor into flare if you have the XP to rebuy it
  • The Backpack+0-cost items could be replaced, but think even with Tetsuo Moriit might be to dicy and you would need a stick to have prepared rdy or a second Spear and the deck gets more expensive)

Possible good cards:

One addition: Stick with Flare/Prepared/Ever Vigilant is pretty good I guess, I will try this in s7/s8 rTFA

I’m trying this deck in Dream Eaters (dream side) and WOW does it work wonders! I was nervous about the lack of weapons but I haven’t run into any issues so far. Lovely deck!
