Essentially the deck I'd run now that I've played through all of Carcosa.
-
Peter Sylvestre is the center point of this deck. No Stone Unturned is in the deck to hunt him down. Forbidden Knowledge to ramp up resources. Painkillers for dealing with damage.
-
I'm not including cards like First Aid or Liquid Courage. So far I have felt more pressure from the agenda then horror or damage. If I wanted more horror healing I'd go for Logical Reasoning first. You don't get as many resources back, but it's 1 action instead of 2 or 3. Peter just seems like a better solution if you're after resources.
-
Machete and Shrivelling is a bit debatable. Machete benefits from Keen Eye, works with Mind over Matter, and has unlimited uses. Shrivelling is at 5 with Peter and Key, and dodges Corrosion and Straitjacket.
-
Foolishness is a third Unexpected Courage. This deck doesn't have the tools to consistently clear horror from the investigator.
-
Manual Dexterity is there specifically for Curtain Call. Overpower might be a better choice depending on the campaign.
- Deck building requirements leave a pretty limited pool of XP cards so upgrades are up to personal preference. What I went with (order as purchased during my campaign):
- Pathfinder x2 (Replace 1 Shortcut and 1 Manual Dexterity)
- Keen Eye
- Peter Sylvestre x2
- Ever Vigilant x1 (Replace Perception)
- Emergency Cache x1 (Replace Perception)
- Stick to the Plan
- Fearless x2
- Magnifying Glass x2
- Charisma (Nice in Dim Carcosa if you have the extra XP)

Apr 12, 2018Ah, lost some of the formatting. Emergency Cache, Shortcut, and Ever Vigilant In the best case Peter will heal the horror from Ward essentially removing all of its cost. In this deck Forewarned costs an additional action to recover the clue. If it had a more powerful effect like Ward of Protection (5) then I'd go for it. |
Apr 12, 2018Isn't one of Carolyn's restrictions 'no weapons'? |
Apr 12, 2018Disregard: upgraded weapons. Carry on! Going to keep an eye on this as I'm intrigued by her restrictions. |
Apr 12, 2018Thanks for the list and explanation |
Apr 14, 2018Can you explain why you pick mind over matter over I got a plan please |
Apr 16, 2018I did not pick Mind over Matter over "I've got a plan!". I originally had both, but cut "I've got a plan!" as it was too unwieldy. Ran into several situations where I had low resources or no clues. I'd put it in a clue focused and/or multiplayer deck. Mind over Matter synergizes with Keen Eye, supports evasion attempts, and buffs all and tests. |
May 28, 2018I would make a place for Arcane Insight as Shrivelling won't make the cut with 3 sanity even with #St. Huberts Key and Peter Sylvestre that makes 5 which is a strict minimum. Perception would then be superflous and could be replaced by Guts. To fuel her need for resources, you could cut Shortcut and put in either Emergency Cache or Alchemical Transmutation. Sadly, Carolyn is a jack of all trades and only really excels in healing, which is largely multi player. I don't like it when FFG do things like this. I'm a big fan of CF, but only ever play her solo two handed. And trying to play her solo in The Forgotten Age has only brought grief so far. I'm going to give this one a try as it has most of the ingredients. |
May 28, 2018Thoroughly in agreement with Foolishness, complete waste of an Ally spot and as you say only useful for his wild icons. |
May 29, 2018Well, I gave this a go, Carolyn is definitely not geared up for running solo in FA. The first scenario went well and I managed to glean 7 xp. I bought a Key of Ys and a couple of Mist's of R'leyh. Unfortunately on three occasions the right cards didn't come out at the right time. With the Key, it came out twice without Peter, so had no protection, even though I held it back as long as I could. Unlucky draws with No Stone Unturned didn't help. I never once used the Machete in either scenario, so maybe some reflection needed on that one. The big problem is she's weakest at what you need most in a jungle, combat and agility. Once the agents of Yig get shuffled in she was in serious trouble. Though Mind over Matter got her out of a couple of sticky situations evading movement restrictions proved her downfall, despite twice getting the Harbinger out of the way. |
What are you sticking to the plan and how do you feel about foreword over Ward
